HISTORY
The first official gathering of Berks County’s Antique Car Lovers was on December 4, 1964. It was held at the Kempton Hotel, Kempton PA. An announcement of a formation meeting appeared in a January 1965 issue of The Kutztown Patriot. On a Friday night that January, the group, along with guest George Norton, vice president of publications and past-president of The Antique Automobile Club of America. After Mr. Norton made his presentation, it was agreed by all to form an official region of the AACA.
There were several things that had to be done. All members had to join the AACA. An official name was needed. Otto Gruber submitted the name “Ontelaunee Region.” Then Mr. Norton presented a petition for a charter which was approved at the national board meeting held during the 29th Annual Meeting of AACA in Philadelphia on February 5, 1965.
On Friday, March 26, 1965, Director Sterling Zimmerman conducted the first official meeting. The club established a monthly newsletter, the Tin ‘N Brass, which continues to this day.
